MK Dons: Premier League B teams ruled out of EFL revampMK Dons will not be coming up against Premier League B teams, or Rangers or Celtic in league action after the English Football League (EFL) ruled out the prospect of clubs 'from outside the English league structure' being included in plans to reform the competition.The EFL released the 'Whole Game Solution' in the summer, a plan to reduce the number of teams in each division from the current 24 to 20, and creating a new 'League Three'The new structure would require an extra eight teams in addition to the current 72 in the Championship, League One and League Two.It had been suggested that 'B' teams from leading Premier League Clubs could fill those spaces, following the inclusion of U23 academy sides in this season's Checkatrade Trophy, whilst it was also rumored Celtic, Rangers and other leading Scottish sides could also be involved.

Cambridge United to avoid meeting Premier League B teams in EFLCambridge United will not face under-23 sides from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in the EFL.It comes after the EFL today rejected plans to include Premier League B teams within their talks on the Whole Game Solution – its proposals to alter the domestic league structure into five divisions of 20 teams from the 2019/20 season, including a new League Three.EFL clubs decided against the controversial idea, which was first mooted two years ago by then FA chairman Greg Dyke in a bid to give young players with top flight clubs a chance of experiencing more competitive senior football.

EFL puts definitive end to controversial plan to include Premier League B teamsThe 72 Football League clubs have definitively ruled out the prospect of Premier League B teams playing them in league football or Rangers and Celtic joining them as part of a planned revamp.Shaun Harvey, the EFL chief executive, said last month the introduction of B teams had not been discounted as a possibility as part of ongoing discussions about its "Whole Game Solution" revamp that includes proposals to increase the number of teams to 80, while also pointing out that more than 90% of clubs would have to agree.After a meeting of all 72 clubs on Thursday, however, the EFL ruled out the inclusion of Premier League B teams, clubs from non-English leagues or those outside the English football pyramid from the plans.
